4-Day Olympic Backpacking - Sol Duc and the Seven Lakes Basin runs through Lasting Adventures. Runs 4 days. From $2000.

Overview

Four days of backpacking through the Sol Duc Valley and the Seven Lakes Basin, starting at Sol Duc Campground near Port Angeles at 14:00 on day one. The route covers Sol Duc Falls, the basin that holds the park's largest concentration of glacial lakes, old-growth forest, and the high country along the High Divide, before descending along the Sol Duc River back to the trailhead. Nights are spent in tents, first at a campsite and then in backcountry wilderness camps.

Lasting Adventures, a non-profit guide service, runs the trip with professional outdoor educators and supplies the core gear: backpacks, sleeping bags and pads, tents, trekking poles, and eating kit. Most meals are provided, with three dinners, three breakfasts, and two lunches across the four days. Participants need strong physical fitness, and the group is capped at five travellers. Booking fees help fund scholarships that send less-privileged youth on summer backpacking programs.

What To Expect From The Tour

This is a genuine backpacking trip, not a day hike, so a few practical points matter before booking.

Common issues. There is no hotel pickup; everyone meets at Sol Duc Campground near Port Angeles, and the trip is not wheelchair accessible. Dates remain tentative until mid-April confirmation, which can complicate wider travel plans. The tour requires a minimum number of travellers to run, and it needs good weather, so cancellations are possible, though the operator offers a different date or a full refund in those cases. Park entry fees and gratuities are extra, and the physical demands rule out casual hikers.

How To Decide

Where does the tour meet?

At Sol Duc Campground, 12076 Sol Duc Hot Springs Road, Port Angeles, Washington, with the start time at 14:00 on day one. There is no hotel pickup. More specific details are emailed before the trip, and the tour ends back at the same meeting point.

What gear is included?

Backpacks, sleeping bags and pads, tents, trekking poles, and eating gear are all provided. You will need to bring your own clothing, footwear, and personal items.

What meals are provided?

Three dinners, three breakfasts, and two lunches are included across the four days. One lunch is not covered, so bring something for that day.

Are there extra costs beyond the booking price?

Yes. Olympic National Park entry fees are not included and cost US$30.00 per booking, and gratuities for guides are not included. Hotel pickup is also not provided.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancel at least 6 full days before the start for a full refund, or 2 to 6 full days before for a 50% refund. Cancellations less than 2 full days out are not refunded, and changes within 6 days of the start are not accepted. If the operator cancels for weather or low numbers, you get a different date or a full refund.

Is this trip suitable for beginners or people with limited mobility?

It is not wheelchair accessible and is not recommended for travellers with back problems, pregnant travellers, or anyone with serious medical conditions. The listing requires a strong physical fitness level, so it is best suited to people already comfortable with multi-day backpacking.
